THE COLLECTION

Artists in Focus

Explore my painted portraits of influential artists and creative figures. Each portrait is accompanied by a brief look at the artist, their work, and the legacy that made them worth painting.

Francis Bacon,

(1909 – 1992)

This Irish-born British figurative painter made an indelible mark in 20th Century art with his raw and disturbing works. His subjects included self-portraits and portraits of close friends, with the abstracted figures often seemingly in the throes of intense suffering.

Jean Cocteau,

(1889 – 1963)

Cocteau is recognized as one of the foremost avant-garde artists of the 20th-century. A true Renaissance man, he achieved enormous success as an artist, poet, playwright, novelist, designer, film director, and critic.

Tamara de Lempicka,

(1898 – 1980)

A Polish painter who spent her working life in France and the United States, de Lempicka is best known for her elegant Art Deco portraits and unique paintings of nudes which blended a neoclassical style

Marcel Duchamp,

(1887 – 1968)

One of the most influential avant-garde artists of the early 20th century, Duchamp challenged traditional ideas about what could be considered art. His provocative works helped redefine the boundaries between everyday objects and fine art.

Sargent Claude Johnson,

(1888-1967)

Johnson was one of the first California African-American artists to achieve national recognition and was also closely associated with the Harlem Renaissance. He worked in abstract figurative and early Modern styles

Amedeo Modigliani,

(1884 – 1920)

This Italian painter and sculptor worked mainly in France and created one of the most recognizable styles in modern art: portraits and nudes characterized by elongated faces and necks, often presented at slightly skewed angles.
